The Windows Installer installation process for the hIOmon software includes several "Custom Installation Options". What do these options do? I-A1. As shown in the figure below, the "Custom Installation Options" allow you to:
I-Q2. I have just successfully installed the hIOmon software using the Windows Installer. What do I do next? I-A2. The installation of the hIOmon software is usually a one-step (sometimes three-step) process; please refer to the "Installation" section of the hIOmon User Guide for a complete description of the hIOmon software installation process. After the basic installation of the various hIOmon software components using the Windows Installer (i.e., step 1), the following two steps might be required:
After successfully completing the hIOmon software installation described above, you are ready to run the hIOmon Presentation Client, the hIOmon WMI Browser and the other hIOmon clients. See the "Getting Started" help information for further instructions. I-Q3. Does the hIOmon installation process set up the hIOmon Manager and hIOmon I/O Monitor components to be automatically started when the computer system starts? I-A3. The hIOmon "Service Installation" program (see I-A2 above) does load the hIOmon Manager so that it will automatically be started when Windows 7/Vista/XP/2003/2008 starts. While the hIOmon I/O Monitor is loaded such that it will not be automatically started by Windows 7/Vista/XP/2003/2008, the hIOmon Manager is configured by default (by the hIOmon "Service Installation" process) so that the hIOmon Manager will automatically start its associated hIOmon I/O Monitor when the hIOmon Manager is started. The hIOmon Presentation Client can also be used to manually start the hIOmon I/O Monitor (see the hIOmon Presentation Client "Actions -> Start/Stop Monitor" menu display) and to enable/disable the hIOmon Manager's automatic start of the hIOmon I/O Monitor when the hIOmon Manager is started (see the hIOmon Presentation Client "Edit -> Setup Options -> Monitor StartUp" menu display) The hIOmon CLI support as well as the hIOmon WMI Browser and WMI support can additionally be used to enable/disable the hIOmon Manager's "Auto-Start" options. I-Q4. I have installed a trial version of the hIOmon File I/O Performance Monitor. When will it expire? I-A4. Use the hIOmon Presentation Client to find out the expiration date for a particular hIOmon Manager (and its associated hIOmon I/O Monitor). Select the "Help -> About" menu item from the main (initial) hIOmon Presentation Client display window. Then click on the "Details" button at the bottom of the "About" display window; this will bring up a "hIOmon Details" display where you can view additional detailed information about the selected hIOmon Manager. Use the "Selected hIOmon Manager" drop-down box at the top of the display to select a particular hIOmon Manager of interest; if the desired hIOmon Manager is not shown within the drop-down box, simply enter, within the "Selected hIOmon Manager" box, the name (or IP address) of the particular computer server upon which the desired hIOmon Manager is running. Be sure to hit the "enter" key on the keyboard after you have typed the name (or IP address) within the "Selected hIOmon Manager" drop-down box. A message box will pop up indicating that the hIOmon Presentation Client is trying to connect to the selected hIOmon Manager. The hIOmon Details display provides detailed information such the version number of the selected hIOmon Manager and its associated hIOmon I/O Monitor. This detailed information also includes license information for the selected hIOmon Manager, such as the hIOmon version type, licensing options, and the expiration date. Both the hIOmon CLI support (-q mgr) and the hIOmon WMI Browser ("About hIOmon" menu option) can also be used to display the hIOmon File I/O Performance Monitor expiration date as well as hIOmon version information. NOTE: hIOmon will cease to operate when the indicated expiration date is reached. The expiration date can be extended only by purchasing (or renewing) the licensed version of hIOmon. When the hIOmon Manager has detected that the expiration date has been reached, it will write an entry (Event ID 499, Source hIOmonGr) to the Application Event Log noting that the trial use of the hIOmon software has expired.
